The first Dental Mission took place in July 2002 and since then we have held Dental Missions two to three times a year. Dentists and dental hygienists from Denmark, and recently also from Sweden and England, travel to Cebu, to help treat the poor in depressed areas in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Lapulapu, as well as small islands in the Visayas region. Through the years, over 20 thousand people have received free treatment, sponsored by companies and individuals in Cebu and Denmark.

DENTAL MISSION IN THE SLUMS OF CEBU
Volunteer dentists from Denmark, Sweden and Britain came to Cebu to help relieve pain and suffering!
Phase 1: A 3 days Dental Mission at FMC Marine Colloids Inc. – a factory that produces food additives from sea weeds. They held a dental mission at their factory last year and are committed to raise awareness of dental health through a tooth brushing program and yearly dental treatment of the children from Cesar Cabahug elementary school, which is situated in a slum area not far from the factory.

After 3 days at FMC Marine Colloids Inc., the free clinic was moved to a terrible slum area called Alaska Mambaling at the south end of Cebu City.

Phase 2: Free Clinic at Nano Nagle Child Care and Learning Center for the Badjao Tribe in Alaska Mambaling, Cebu City. The Badjao tribe constitutes the original Filipino population in this part of the country. They lost their livelihood (fishing) due to a highway project.

We want to express our appreciation to all the dentists and volunteers who gave of their time and money to be part of this dental mission. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Dr. Sabah and Dr. Rachel are going to stay with us till the middle of March, and we will set up a mini dental clinic in various institutions. The next big dental mission will be from July 8-25, 2011. If you are a dentist and interested in participating, please communicate with us at info@riseabove-cebu.org. We need your application and pertinent papers by the end of April if you want to participate in the July Dental Mission. You are hereby officially invited!
