Rise Above Community Center in Guadalajara, Cebu City
Intention:
To build a multipurpose building which will provide a training center for women in the local community as well as a child-minding area for their preschool children?
We hope to get sponsoring for computers, so that we can offer computer literacy training for youth, who have had to drop out of high school because of lack of money to pay for their studies.
Goal:
To teach these women skills that will sustain them and their families for life. The goods that will be produced and sold such as bags, fashion jewelry, greeting cards etc., will provide wages for the women and pay for the running of the Center. To teach youth computer and English, so that they will be able to get work and help support their families.

International linkages:
A Canadian volunteer foundation called “Developing World Connections“, requested a partnership with us. Their specialty is to initiate sustainable projects through long term partnerships with local communities in developing countries. They believe in the slogan: “Give a man a fish and he will be hungry again tomorrow: teach him to fish and he will be able to feed himself for the rest of his life!” The Canadian Foundation provided the starting capital for the first part of the building process and they sent 15 volunteers who all contributed towards the project as well as digging the foundation and starting the cementing in the three weeks they stayed with us.
